StucDeco – StucGranito is sometimes referred to as spreadable natural stone. Genuinely hard to touch, exquisitely solid and scratch-resistant. A certain elegance and refinement which is rare.

StucDeco – StucGranito is a sophisticated product which has been around since the classical antiquity when it was used as a prestigious finishing layer for floors, partitions, walls and stairs in villas and palaces. The stucco technique is still in use today but only applied by real craftsmen and in spaces where it is justified.

With StucDeco – StucGranito, you can use a natural product indoors which, in comparison with other mineral wall finishes, is as hard as concrete and perfectly waterproof. This is only true if it is applied correctly. A successful job with StucDeco – StucGranito requires a perfect application and real craftsmanship.

Despite its traditional origin, StucDeco – StucGranito can be used for many applications and contributes to creating the atmosphere in old buildings as well as in new minimalistic architecture. This material can be used for a wide range of styles, as long as they require quality, solidness and refinement. From bathrooms with a Tadelakt look or glossy walls with colour nuances to a sparkling white, geometrical and smooth wall finish: StucDeco – StucGranito can do it all.

Stuc is really a product for professionals and you should refer to a qualified craftsman if you want a perfect result.

Composition

StucDeco – StucGranito is like spreadable natural stone. It consists of several layers of StucDeco – StucGranito paste which are applied on top of each other and optionally polished. In addition to the decorative aspect, StucDeco – StucGranito is also maintenance-friendly and scratch-resistant. The process applies a film on the surface which makes it water-resistant and easy to wipe clean.

StucGranito, which is applied evenly in clean lines, creates a smooth painted effect with a slight granular texture when you touch it. When polished, StucDeco has a satin feel and more colour nuances, similar to a Tadelakt look.

Substrates

Stoopen & Meeûs StucDeco – StucGranito can be applied to all substrates which are solid, stable, dry and grease-free. Concrete, screed and walls are obvious substrates, but StucDeco – StucGranito can also be applied directly on existing tiles, tables, existing coats of paint, work counters, MDF, sanitary construction elements, stairs, etc. It is recommended to apply StucPrimer for optimum adhesion and ease of use. A water barrier must of course be installed under the StucDeco – StucGranito in wet spaces such as showers.

Colours

Pigments are used to colour StucDeco – StucGranito and this means the material is generally available in natural, earthen colours and hues, from light sandy tones to deep dark colours. On the other hand, pristine white walls or black Tadelakt style are also possible.

In any case, it is recommended to test the finish with a sample so you can assess the colour, intensity and appearance obtained with this application technique.

FAQ

Stuc can only be applied to dry surfaces. Rising damp in walls or moisture penetrating through old floors must be remedied first to avoid problems.

Yes, StucSoap and StucHardWaxOil determine the final colour hue depending on the number of layers applied. Generally speaking, StucSoap and StucHardWaxOil make the colour hue darker.

After a period of time depending on traffic and soiling, you may need to touch up certain areas of the StucHardWaxOil. If the StucHardWaxOil is only worn off but not dirty, you can apply a new layer locally on top of the cleaned old layer.

When the Stuc is completely dry, you can apply a protective coat of StucVernisPU varnish:

  • Apply the first coat of StucVernisPU undiluted with a felt roller of max. 5 mm by rolling a thin layer intensely.
  • The second coat can be diluted 5% with water to obtain a better spread of the StucVernisPU varnish.
  • Always roll in different directions and pay attention to overlapping.

When the Stuc is completely dry, you can apply a protective coat of StucHardWaxOil:

  • Rub the StucHardWaxOil in with a lint-free sponge until a matt film is obtained.
  • Let it dry for 10 hours and apply a second layer in the same way.
  • After 24 hours, test the water tightness with a damp sponge: if dark spots appear, apply an extra layer of StucHardWaxOil.

When the Stuc is completely dry, you can apply a protective coat of StucSoap, like you would for natural stone:

  • Rub in one or two layers of StucSoap with a lint-free sponge.
  • Do not let too much white foam dry up; rub out remaining foam after 1-2 minutes.
  • If a white haze is visible on the floor due to an excess of soap, rub it out with a sponge.

Finishing with StucSoap is sufficient for “regular” floors in living rooms and bedrooms. Applying StucVernisPU varnish or StucHardWaxOil provides extra protection against stains and moisture.

In wet spaces, applying two layers of StucVernisPU varnish is an extra guarantee for preventing damp from penetrating the Stuc and the underlying structure of the building. If penetrating damp (dark stains) appears after a period of time, apply a new coat of StucVernisPU varnish immediately.

Stuc Granito & Stuc Deco each have their own typical characteristics. Granito has a rougher, matter and more even finish, while Deco is smoother with a higher shine (Tadelakt look).

Stuc is extremely hard (comparable with natural stone) and adheres very well. It can only be removed by knocking it off.

It is possible to paint over Stuc, depending on the chosen finish (StucVernisPU and StucHardWaxOil).

Stuc is designed to be applied indoors.

All mineral substrates but also tiles, MDF, work counters, sanitary shapes, etc. are a good support for Stuc if the substrate is sufficiently stable. It is possible to plaster over old layers of paint but the binding of Stuc is only as good as the adhesion of the old paint layers.

It is recommended to always apply a granular StucPrimer for optimum adhesion and ease of use. This StucPrimer reduces absorption by the substrate and increases the processing time.

In wet spaces such as a shower, always use a water barrier under the Stuc (Kerdi type, etc.), unless the shower tiles are in good condition. In these cases it is recommended to finish the Stuc with StucVernisPU varnish. See the Stuc instructions.

Stuc Granito is rougher and more porous than Stuc Deco. This means colour nuances may be visible when StucSoap or StucHardWaxOil are applied because the absorption is different.
